National Volunteer Week
April 18, 2012 at 10:58 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentIt’s National Volunteer Week and Northeast Ohio is participating!
National Volunteer Week was designed to identify, inspire and encourage individuals to actively find ways to participate in their communities. Through National Volunteer Week, and dedicated volunteers, we can show that we have the strength and determination to meet the challenges in our communities, cities, states and nation. This week is about taking action in your local community and taking responsibility for social change. Together, we can make a difference.
For National Volunteer Week, the Northeast Ohio Literacy Corps teamed up with Green Corps, a division of the Botanical Garden, to prepare a teaching garden located in Slavic Village.
The Cleveland Botanical Garden founded Green Corps, a work/study program, in 1996. While Green Corps students grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers, they earn money as well as learn important job skills, leadership, and a healthier, greener community.
Northeast Ohio Literacy Corps Members worked together to prepare the garden for spring planting and new learning opportunities. By coming together, AmeriCorps Members are building a stronger community throughout Northeast Ohio.
